Hi! I know, it’s been a while. As my title says, Life is changing. I am changing and just doing things differently. Nothing major, but there just comes a time, or times, when I just have to change it up a bit. I won’t bore you with details, but all is good. And I have been stitching. Always stitching. That is one wonderful constant in my life. I can’t imagine my life without stitching. So here is what I have been working on. First up, The Raven Queen, by Mirabilia.
This is where I left her a few weeks ago. From the middle down is finished and now I am working my way up to her sweet face. I am stitching her on 16ct Aida Twixt N Tween from Hand Dyed Fabrics by Stephanie. Love the Queen on this fabric. I have put her away, for another new project; yes, another project. I can’t help it! I saw someone stitching 3 little mermaids on one piece of fabric and I just loved it! So here is my first mermaid:
It is Nora Corbett’s Coral Charms. I stitched her in 12 days. Just finished her last night, minus the beads which I will add when I finish stitching the other 2 mermaids. Mermaid Azure will be stitched on the left and Mermaid Verde will be on the right. I am stitching them on 16ct Aida Summer Showers from Sunny Dyes. Teri, over at Sunny Dyes, switched my fabric up a bit from her normal Summer Showers. She made it more blue for water and since 16ct Aida doesn’t come in opal, she added glitter and big glitter rain drops (or water bubbles in my case) and it shimmers and sparkles just perfectly! Sorry I couldn’t capture the sparkle in my photo, but trust me, it is sparkly! I love the idea of the mermaid trio and the Summer Showers fabric so much, that I ordered another piece so that I can do the other 3 La Petite mermaids to match this piece.
The last project I have to share is a crochet project I have been working on and I must say, it is a mess 😦
I only have 5 more rows to go on this Citrus Stripe Blanket. I will finish it, but I am not pleased with it. It seems that I still have an issue with turning and starting in the correct stitch. The first row of each color is a stitch that leaves big holes. I am still not sure I like them. I keep having visions of a baby getting their little toes stuck in them. Anyway, when I started, there were 25 of those holes across. After the first yellow stripe, somehow I did something wrong and only have 24 holes. Where I have stopped, I only have 22 or 23. So clearly, my crochet skills are not getting any better. And if I were to do another one of these (not saying I will, but I have lots of yarn left) I would not use the Taupe yarn again. The pattern called for Bernat Baby sport 300 grams and I barely used any! And the yarn is quite scratchy compared to all the other Knit Picks yarns that I used. They are so soft. I would definitely get another color in that yarn to replace the Taupe. I also have the border to do. We shall see how that goes.

I’m so jealous you are farther along on Raven than I am. And then you did Coral in the meantime! You go girl! Anyway, everything is lovely, even the blanket that you don’t like.

Thanks, Marsha. I am having fun with my stitchings. Well, except for the blanket. I thought I was doing so well until I laid it out and saw that I have screwed it up. I may never be able to crochet, unless I can keep going and going and going without turning and chaining and getting to the end to figure out which stitch I am supposed to go in. Oh well.

But you did receive all of your supplies, right? You will start her when you are ready and you will love it! I really hated putting her down, but was so inspired by the mermaid project, I had to get right on it. LOL. I will get back to Raven when I can and by then you will have started yours, Paula.

Well I joined a 16 in 2016 group which is for finishing not starting! I don’t have 16 WIP tho so oops! I’ll have to start some things 🙂

Oh darn, you have to start new projects. LOL. That would be so easy for me. You will love stitching on Raven once you get her started. 16 projects…I am probably more than half way with that one. Do I dare join something like that… It would probably drive me crazy having so many projects “undone”. Maybe I can join the group and check out your projects 😉

Your blanket doesn’t look bad I guess the best way to start the row is to always start in the second stitch, hope this helps 🙂

Thank you. I will have to go and check out what you are working on. My crochet stitches are not bad looking. Maybe a little bigger than they should be, but trying to figure out the correct stitch to go into when turning is definitely a challenge for me. I thought I had it down after my crochet class, but obviously I don’t. I will keep plugging away at it. Working on the border now, so we shall see how it turns out.

All that stitching looks great – the mermaid is pretty and her fabric sounds fabulous. as for the blanket – ll I can say is keep practicing, and remember that blocking hides a lot of sins. Also that babies are very non-judgmental. The number of holes won’t matter. 🙂

Thank you for your words of encouragement on my blanket and crochet skills :). I have to admit that I have never blocked anything, and will definitely have to try it with this blanket to see if I can “block it into shape”. It doesn’t look too terribly off, but I can definitely tell. I am working on the border now, so I hope I will have a finish soon.

Have been stitching a little pillow cover, but much slower than yours. 🙂
The blanket is lovely. And the baby won’t mind at all, its the love that went into the making of the blanket that they will feel and remember most of all. 🙂

Yep, change is always going to be there. Most of the time I do not embrace change willingly, but lately I have. Thank you about my projects. I couldn’t believe that I stitched Coral Charms so quickly either, but she is a somewhat smaller design than I usually do. I am working on the 2nd mermaid now, but haven’t had too much time to stitch the last few days. I am hoping to put some serious stitches in today 🙂 I don’t know a whole lot about crocheting either. I learned when I was 12 and made many ripple afghans and bed dolls, the occasional heart or flower to adorn my cards and scrapbook pages, but it has been a while since I picked up my crochet hook. I am still learning. I am working on the border of the blanket, so hopefully it will be finished soon and I can really decide whether or not I really like it.

Thank you Marilyn. I was inspired to do the Mermaid Trio by someone who had posted in one of the Mirabilis groups on Facebook. I am also working on the border of the blanket, so a finish is just around the corner 🙂

I received a cross stitch kit catalogue in the post the other day and the Raven Queen caught my eye. I hadn’t seen it before. It looks really beautiful. Your crochet will be fine when the border is done. I’m sure it’ll keep someone very cosy 🙂

Thank you for the kind words about my blanket. I am working on the border and have already learned a new stitch! Picot stitch 🙂 this row of the border is going to take a long time, though. I am not very fast. That’s ok. It is my go to/travel project or sit and crochet when I have a few minutes here and there. I will post the finish when I get there. The Raven Queen is gorgeous. I can’t wait to get back to stitching on her.

Indeed. I normally have a big one and then a few small ones on the go, but as soon as I buy a new kit I can’t help starting it so I normally try not to buy one until I’ve finished one. Normally anyway!
