What’s New In My Stitching World

Hello my blogging friends!  Here it is, Christmas Eve.  Are you all ready for the big day?  I am.  Though I blew off baking today to take my Mom to do some last minute shopping she forgot. I also spent some time with both of my boys this morning, so that is always good.  Later today I will be going to the movies with hubby and #1 son.  Then relaxing for the rest of the night.  I must say, that getting all of my holiday stuff done a little early to have relaxing time is a must.  I have to try this every year 😉

Yesterday I did laundry and started knitting myself a hat.

knitting new hat

I casted on this chunky hat using size 11 and 15 needles.  I used Malabrigo Rasta in color Almond Blossom.  I have never made myself a hat before and after going to the zoo last week to see the Wild Lights, I realized I needed a winter hat.  So a few hours later, this is what resulted:

my knitted hat

It is so soft and such a pretty peachy pink color!  All it needs is a pom pom, but I don’t think this yarn will make a good pom pom.  So I will head back to the knitting shop after Christmas and see about getting a pom pom maker and figure out a yarn to make one with.

And here is me wearing my new chunky hat. It looks ok without the pom pom, too.  The pattern is the Chunky Cabled hat by Destiny Meyer and it is on Ravelry in case you are interested.  This will definitely keep me warm for the rest of the winter and next year when we go to see the lights at the zoo again.

This years big attraction was this larger than life lighted ornament that we had our picture taken in.  So pretty.

This weekend I picked up this beauty from the framer:

I love the frame I chose and think she is beautiful!  I am hoping to hang my Pink Princess in my craft room this weekend.

I am still working on the Mystery Sampler from Linen and Thread and am hoping to get the December section done by the end of the month.  Here is where I left it yesterday:

mystery sampler december section

This section has been a little difficult for me to figure out where I want what color of the thread to lay where.  So I am just winging it.  So far it seems to be ok.  I hope to post a finish of the entire piece soon 😉

So that is where my stitching has stopped for now.  Going to go and enjoy some time with my family. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas if you are celebrating.  And I hope that you able to get some stitchy time in, too.  I’d love to hear all about what you are stitching these days 🙂

  1. So happy you get to spend time with both boys! A truly good holiday.

The hat is adorable! It looks great without a pompom, but if you have your heart set on one, have you considered one of the faux fur ones? It would look cute on you!

And the stitching! Wow! So beautiful! Can’t wait to see this years sampler all done. So pretty.

    1. Christmas was wonderful. Loved having both boys and youngests new wife and my Mom over to spend time with hubby and I. I am truly blessed :). I did look at the faux and real fur pom poms, but they are so expensive. With having to buy 2 sets of 16″ cables and the yarn and pattern, I couldn’t justify buying a fur pom. But I did get some Christmas money, and I do plan on making a trip to the knit shop soon, so who knows what I will pick up 😉 Still working on the sampler. For some reason it is going so slow. Or maybe it is just me and my way of dragging out the finish 🙂

    The frame is perfect.
Cute hat, I think it looks good without a Pom.
The mystery is looking swell too.
    Have a very Merry Christmas!!

    1. Thank you, E.C. ❤ I wish the photo of hubby and I was a bit better. Basically when it was our turn to get into the ornament, we handed our camera or phone to the volunteer and she quickly took a few pictures. After the ones on my camera didn't come out at all, we got back in line and hubby handed off his phone. We should have spent some time before getting in line, trying to get the perfect setting for night and lights. But this photo was the best one and maybe I can do some editing to make it a bit lighter. It was a fun night. I hope your Christmas was a wonderful one.

    1. Thank you, Nicola Florence ❤ I love the color of the hat, too. Though I will have a hard decision deciding on a Pom color if I decide to put one on. The sheep yarn bowl was a gift from a friend a couple of years ago. It Is a cutie and makes me smile :). I hope your Christmas was a joyous one.

Love, love, love the Pink Princess! the fabric, the stitching, the beads, and the frame fit so well together, and she’s a beauty, indeed.
I managed to finish my Linen and Threads SAL 🙂 and I can’t wait to see your finished December and the project overall.
Your hat is really cute! You’re right, it does look good even without the pom pom, and I have a feeling it’ll look great with one. Hope you find yarn that you like.

    1. Thank you, Anita ❤ I love how Pink Princess turned out. She is currently hanging in my dining room and will eventually make her way up to my craft room. I am still plugging away on the December section of the sampler. I think this one has taken me the longest! But this has also been a busy month. Hopefully I will have a finish before Dec. 31. I am looking forward to seeing your finish. Kudos to you for finishing it already! I will be making a trip to the knit shop, maybe today ;). I will share what I decide to do with the hat.

    1. Thank you, Catherine. I do love the color of the hat and wish I had made it a tad longer. But I panicked thinking I wouldn’t have enough yarn and cut a row or two out. I’ll remember for the next one. Yes, I have another ball in gray that I want to use for another hat 😉 My Christmas was wonderful. Hoping your Christmas was a great one and that 2019 will bring you much happiness and love.

  5. you are so talented. Love the cross stitching. I haven´t done any for ages. The knitted hat is good too. Have you thought of a tassel to adorn your hat? The chunky wool would take a tassel. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Glad you had a good Christmas and I would like to wish you a very happy and peaceful and fruitful new year. Blessings!

    1. Thank you Moira ❤ I did purchase a pom pom maker after Christmas, but haven't had time to try making a pom pom yet. I also have some faux fur balls ordered just in case the pom pom doesn't work. I hadn't thought of a tassel. That is also an option 😉 I hope your Christmas was wonderful and wishing you a Happy, healthy, wonderful New Year 🙂

  6. Your hat is absolutely fabulous. 🙂 Well done. And also well done on the sampler. Wow, stunning. I think the way the colours are falling is beautiful.
Pink Princess is adorable. You did choose the perfect frame. 🙂 They go together. Enjoy her in your craft room.

    1. Thank you, Joey ❤ Pink Princess is still hanging in my dining room where I can see her often. The sampler has been put in for framing and I can't wait to get it back. Finding a place to hang it will be challenging, as I think I want it in my craft room, but getting to the wall behind my desk will be challenging. We'll deal with that later 😉
