So this is my Mira Mystery start. Not much, but still a start. I have mixed feelings about this one. I am stitching this on 16ct Aida Pink Impatiens by Silkweaver. The color is actually a little darker than my photo, but the stitching colors are pretty accurate. I am using the called for Specialty threads (Weeks Dye Works and Classic Colorworks) I am thinking that they may be thinner than DMC because I am not getting good fabric coverage. Any thoughts on this? Since I have so much $$ invested in this one, I will keep going with it.
So, what are you stitching on today?
Gosh, you’re brave stitching a Mira on aida! I can never get the half & quarter stitches even enough to satisfy me.
I love the look so far! and I’m not a pink person. Are you dropping your needle every few stitches? I find I have to do that with a lot of the dyed threads, so there’s no chance of twists.

Paula, I am an Aida girl and stitch 99% on Aida. I use a chenille needle, so have never had a problem “making my own holes” for 1/4 stitches. I know that I don’t get complete, perfect coverage on Aida, but using the dyed threads is seeming to leave a lot of the pink fabric showing. I do have to let my needle dangle and untwist quite often. Was just not expecting to see so much of the fabric through the stitching.

14 aida equals 28 evenweave & I do get some showing thru. I’ll try to get a close up of Persephone’s jellyfish for you. I don’t on 32count tho.

I remember seeing your “jellyfish”, but didn’t notice the fabric showing through. I am hoping once this piece is done and hanging on the wall, no one will notice the fabric showing through. It’s mostly on the flowers so far.

I think the piece looks good. I wouldn’t even have noticed show through if you hadn’t mentioned it.

Thank you, Diya. I have started on a dark purple area and it is really driving me crazy. Hubby says don’t worry about it. So I am trying not to.

Maybe if it is really bothering you, you could try increasing the number of strands for the darker colors? I know I plan to do that on one of my HAEDs because sometimes the coverage with the darker colors can be a bit disappointing.

I have considered it, but that would mean buying another skein of each of the 41 colors to be sure that I have enough. I have already spent quite a bit on this project and don’t dare spend anymore. I will continue with it as it is. Would definitely recommend doing it in the DMC floss to anyone wanting to start.

It looks lovely from here. However, if you aren’t liking it now, you may not grow to like the finish either. Is it just the darker colours that you can see through? If so, swap those ones for DMC to keep the cost down.

Thank you for your kind words and suggestion. I have already purchased all of the supplies for this one in the specialty threads. Since I will probably never use them again on another project, I will keep stitching this one. If I really don’t like it in the end, I can always redo it in the DMC. It is mostly the darker colors, but I can also see a difference in the lighter colors when I look closer. I definitely think that 2 strands of Weeks Dye threads are thinner than DMC and will remember that in the future.

I love the look so far and I can’t seems to see why the poor overage like you mention. Maybe I’m taken away by the pink colour.. i love the fabric by the way.. is my kind of colour.. following you on this one. 😉

Thank you, Angela. I have been stitching on it and still not liking the coverage, but I will continue on. I will post an update soon. I love the fabric, too. PINK! Yay!

I love it. I’m not good at stitching, and would attempt much on the differences in yarns. 🙂 My humble opinion is that it is very pretty and I love the fabric you are using. 🙂

Thank you, Joey. I am still stitching on it. I don’t have much choice since I have so much invested in the threads. If I really don’t like it in the end, I can always re-stitch it in DMC. The fabric is gorgeous in person. Very pink 😉
