It Was Only A Matter Of Time

Warning, this is a long post, so grab your favorite beverage and hang out for a bit 😉  I have put Ella down to make a new start.  As the title says, it was just a matter of time before some beautiful design captured my full attention, making me want to put Ella aside.  Here is my new start!

This is Nora Corbett’s new design, Queen Anne’s Lace.  Right now it is a FREE PDF from Just Cross Stitch Magazine.  Gotta love that!  It will be in the April issue of the magazine but for now you can download it from JCS magazine site.  It will be the first piece to hang in my NEW craft room when she is finished.  More on the NEW craft room in a second 🙂 I am stitching little Miss Anne on 16ct Aida Carmel Macchiato from Stehphs Fabbys.  Can I say I am already tired of green and want to get to the Pink?  I am not a fan of green, but there is not as much as the yellow in Ella.  Here is how I left Ella yesterday:

She is coming along, but not fast enough for me.  So Pixie Anne is the perfect distraction.

OK, so I mentioned a NEW craft room.  A few years ago, hubby was encouraging me to take one of our boys’ bedrooms for my new craft room.  Our oldest moved out 3 1/2 years ago, and while the thought of a new craft room sounded wonderful, I couldn’t take over my son’s room. So last year, my youngest said I should take over his room, he will move into our oldest’s room and I can have my craft room.  So I decided I would do it in the Spring of 2016.  The last few months hubby has been pushing the idea and I have been thinking about how I would like to decorate it.  I will be losing quite a bit when I leave my current room; like a desk, shelves above my head, cupboards to the right of me.  You see, my current craft room is a narrow space in my laundry room, which also contains the furnace and water heater.  Here is a glimpse into my current space:

I have made great use of the space I have had for 17 or so years.  But I have really outgrown it.  And the floor is concrete and is very cold.  Here is the other end of my current room:

So a couple of weeks ago, hubby and I were at the office store and I ran into some furniture that just blew me away!  I was originally thinking a new desk would be white, to match my current cube furniture.  But this furniture I fell in love with is glass!  And silver frame. So I thought about it for a few days, had taken measurements and went back to the store on the last day of the sale to take a final look.  I even gathered some things from the store to put on my desk to see how it would all feel.  LOVED it and ordered the furniture.  That was on Jan. 30.  That day, hubby also called a painter to come in and give us an estimate.  The painter said he could start on Wednesday and be done by Sunday!  What???  That only gave us 3 1/2 days to box up one room and move the other room in!  It was moving way too fast.  I thought I had until Spring to start on it.  So, hubby and I began the move on Sunday and the painter arrived on Wednesday evening to an empty room that needed some patching and a border removed and prep for painting.

So I am SOOOO excited about my new room!  I want the walls Pink (of course) and the trim gray.  The carpet is a light gray, even though the photo looks like it is purple.  After many times changing my mind, I made my final decision on paint swatches last night:

So many pinks and grays to choose from (there really are 50 shades of gray, or more! LOL) but I finally decided: Impatiens Petal pink and Software gray. Sorry for the blurriness on my color choices.  So by Sunday, I think the painter will be done and sometime next week we can start putting my furniture together, which were delivered this week.  I plan to have all of my stamping, scrapbooking, cross stitch and knitting and crocheting all in this one room instead of spread throughout the house.  The room is not really that big, but bigger than the space I have now so I am looking forward to decorating and organizing it.  My wonderful husband is totally responsible for this happening.  If it wasn’t for him, I still wouldn’t be getting a room.  Spring would come and I would still have reasons not to move the boys’ things. My  boys are perfectly fine with what I am doing and my youngest was even here earlier in the week going through his things, and helping me move stuff.  I am feeling better about the whole process and can’t wait to move in next week 🙂

If you are still here, thank you for listening to me go on and on about my craft room.  Do you have a special place where you like to do all of your crafting?

  1. I just loved reading about everything going on with you. You will be in heaven having this craft room all newly painted and with beautiful furniture. We expect “after” photos once it is all set up. (Plus I love your new project — but I love green!)

    1. Johanna, I am glad I didn’t bore you with all the details. I thought the post may be too long and even omitted some photos. I will definitely post more pictures on the progress of the room. I am on such a high right now! And I do love Pixie Anne, too. Just can’t wait to get to the pink! Pink threads on order.

    1. Thank you. It depends on the project. I have been working on Ella for about 5 weeks and I don’t think she is 1/2 done yet. Queen Ann’s Lace Pixie is a smaller design, so I am hoping to get her done in about a month. The new craft room may deter me, though 😉

      1. Wow, that’s amazing! Yes, I’ve been redecorating my room, took me a lot longer than I anticipated. Very jealous of your craft room 😉

Ella is looking good though, congrats on how far you’ve gotten on the yellow.

    1. Thank you Marilyn. It really was time for a break from Ella. Hopefully when I get back to her I can just breeze through the rest of the dress and then work my way up to her beautiful face and that cute little frog 🙂 The craft room is going to be awesome when finished! I can’t wait to start adding all of my things to the room. I will keep you posted 😉

    1. Thank you, Marsha. My room is finished being painted! Woo Hoo! Can move in tomorrow. Things will be slow moving though, as I want to be able to use my space in the best possible way. Very excited! Sorry that Melanie is looking in Warren 😦 Hopefully she finds something closer.

  5. I love that you are getting a craft room! When we moved into this house, a full third of the upstairs was deemed my craft room. I love it! Of course, it has become something of a catchall room, but you have inspired me to think about cleaning it up and getting it sorted out. I will say that knitting doesn’t seem to stay put u[ there – it mostly lives in a cart and basket behind the sofa.:-) It isn’t something I tend to do upstairs. But all the sewing and paper crafts and supply storage is there, it is so nice to be able to leave the mess and walk out when it is time to make supper or something. So glad you are getting a pretty space. with carpet!

    1. Thank you. My stitching supplies will hopefully be in my new room, but like you, I won’t stitch there. My projects are scattered around the living room 😉 Stamping and scrapbooking will be done in my new room, and hopes are to have everything in one room, but I don’t think that I will have room for everything, so I will have to think carefully about where I put everything. I am glad I have inspired you to get some organizing done in your room. I love to organize! You will feel very good when you are done and have a space to craft again.

      1. I hope you can get enough storage, but if not, maybe some new cabinets or a dresser in your old space, for those things that don’t need to be done IN the craft room? I hope the inspiration for organization carries through to actually DOING it. 🙂

  6. 🙂 I see myself in this post. So true, one has the room, but dont want to really “kick your child out”. I had very much the same with my daughters room. Took me forever to decide to really use the room, other than to keep all her “stuff” in it that she did not take with her when she moved out. Now the room is used as a guest room, with one wall and corner for my craft goodies. In the end I did have fun making the room over.
I absolutely love the 2 colours you chose for the paint. Creative colours and more than one colour also works for me. Have fun, and keep us posted, looking forward to seeing it take shape. I just know it is going to be just as stunning as your crafts, and warmer, no more concrete floor. 🙂

    1. Thank you, Joey. The painting was finished yesterday, so I can move in today. Have to wait 2 days to put all the outlet covers and light cover back on and 1 week to put anything on the shelves in the closet. So I will slowly be moving in. So excited. The colors look great and I will get some pictures posted soon. Glad that you were able to get re-do a room for your crafts, too, even if it is just a partial.

      1. Awesome, your painter knows what he is doing. 🙂
I totally agree with you, its lovely to be able to move in slowly. That way you remember where you put stuff and don’t have to look for it later again. Works best for me.
Looking forward to your photos later, yet I am sure it is just stunning.
Enjoy and have fun making your room. 🙂

  7. YAY!!!! I LOVE LONG POSTS! And it is sooooo exciting to get a new craft room!!!
Love the soft pink… my favorite color too. I can’t wait to see it all put together. I have to say though, that I’m admiring the organization and cozy space of your current craft room. Looks like you have a place carefully thought out for everything. The new pixie is so cute!

    1. Thank you, Fawn. Another thing we have in common! The room is finished being painted, the desk and bookcase are put together. The corner piece to connect the 2 desks was shattered when we opened it last night, so that will have to be re-ordered. Hopefully I will get some pictures up soon 🙂 Now to get all that stuff up to the new room and organized! That will be quite the job. I am loving the new pixie and will update her progress soon, too.
