Stitching and Legos While Recovering From Surgery

Last week I had surgery to remove my gallbladder.  I had 5 major gallbladder attacks since July and have been pretty miserable since.  I wasn’t diagnosed with gallstones until February and in March I made the decision to have it removed robotically.  A week later and I am feeling pretty good.  I did have a minor setback, but today I am feeling better.  I am still on light activity for 2 more weeks and still no lifting over 8 pounds for 2 weeks, but I think that the worst is behind me.  I couldn’t stitch on my projects that are on a scroll frame so I spent some time off and on working on and finishing this little project:

It’s Fairy Dust by Nimue and I must say that I am not very fond of this pattern. The backstitching was crazy! It went through stitches, and on the sides of stitches, not in any holes. I ended up backstitching how I wanted. And for some reason the 1/2 stitches in the wings really kept throwing me off.  I had to rip them out twice.  I am blaming the pain meds 😉 Hubby loves it and that is all that matters since I was stitching it for him.  I don’t think I will ever do another Nimue design, even though I have see some cute ones.  Not a relaxing stitch for me.

Hubby bought me 3 Lego sets to put together while recovering.  The first one was a small Lego Friends Bunny house. Sitting for very long was not an option, so this set was perfect.  The next set was a medium sized set; another Friends set. Mira’s Roadster.  Really cute girl car.

And the last set was a larger set and it took me 3 nights to put together.  Disney’s Ariel’s Underwater Palace.  LOVE it!

Such a cute set and there are 2 mermaids included!  So thanks to my wonderful hubby, who took great care of me and provided me with fun things to take my mind off of my discomfort.

  1. I wish you a speedy and complete recovery! I think your little stitch is very cute but if you didn’t really enjoy it, it sure wouldn’t be worth doing another one. I haven’t done anything with legos since my daughter was younger. I think I enjoyed them more than she did.

    1. Thank you Helen. I am glad I was able to push through the stitching and finish it for hubby as he really likes it. I have enjoyed legos since my boys were little, purchasing the first set when my oldest was about 3. I too, think I enjoyed them just a tad bit more than they did 😉 I didn’t have legos as a child, so I guess over indulged my boys. But they both loved them too and had many, many hours of fun lego building.

      1. I am much the same. I also didn’t have Legos myself but thought they were the neatest thing so I tried to make up for it with my daughter. I think I did the same thing with Barbie dolls and my daughter.

      2. We had such deprived childhoods, didn’t we Helen? LOL I remember playing with legos when we visited family friends and did get a little taste of them now and then. While buying legos for my sons when they were little I also found some pink lego sets for girls that I just had to have and instantly fell in love with. The boys did too and loved when they could play with “Mom’s legos” 🙂

    1. Thank you Marsha. Not sure where I am going to put them…I will find a place to display them for a while. I really need a larger craft room 😉

  2. So glad you are on the mend. Love the fairy and the lego architecture. Did you notice that you said “Mira” instead of “Mia”? Wonder what you were thinking of…..

    1. LOL, Johanna! I did not notice the slip! I even proofread and didn’t notice. Oh well, I think her name should be Mira, so that is what I will call her from now on. Maybe I was thinking about Florentina and adding her to my stash??? I think it’s in the back of my mind 🙂
