Stitching Is Keeping Me Sane

Hi!  I am still here, and stitching, packing, getting over a stomach virus and still cleaning out the basement.   Hubby and I just about have the basement cleaned out in preparation for the waterproofing.  Just a few pieces of smaller furniture left to bring up and the 3 bigger pieces that we won’t be able to bring up. Our garage is filled from floor to ceiling with lots of bins and boxes.  A few weeks ago we had new gutters installed and for some reason we are now getting water in the basement when it rains.  Ugh!  We have never had water, just a damp carpet on one side of the basement.  So one night, while hubby and I were both sick with a stomach bug, he had to go out at 10:30 at night to buy a shop vac.  We were up until 1 am vacuuming up water.  And we have bought a dehumidifier to help dry everything up.  I will be so happy when this is all done with.  And then we get to figure out if everything gets to go back into the  basement.  I’m almost  to the point that it can stay an unfinished basement.  We’ll see how long it will be until it is all back to normal.

Through it all, my stitching has been there to lift my spirits and take me away.  So what have I been stitching on?

I finished the peacock on the 2019 Mystery Sampler from Linen and Threads.

peacock sampler 2

I stitched the peacock in DMC 3810 on 16ct Aida Graceful Gray from Wichelt.  I also finished the borders using Gloriana Silk Rain Forest.  I love the colors in that thread!

peacock-sampler-1.jpg

I ran out of thread for the bottom middle block, but I have some on order and fingers crossed it will match what I have done.  And I finished the March block in no time.

Peacock sampler 3

I am hoping I can complete this sampler with just the DMC 310. But if it turns out that I need to add more color, I can pull colors from the Rain Forest thread.  I like the March block and wonder if all the blocks will be similar.  So for now it is tucked away until the April section comes out.  I have decided to work on some of my WIP’s and pulled this one out:

PR 20th anniversary SAL update1

I love this piece and would love to get it finished.  I completed the second block from the left and am working on the 3rd block.  This is Passione Ricamo‘s 20th anniversary piece.  I am stitching it on 16ct Aida Nantucket Sky from Fabrics by Stephanie.

PR 20th anniversary SAL update2

I will stitch on this one until I finish the block I am working on and then pull another WIP out.  I am hoping to finish a couple of projects this year.

This weekend I picked this up from the cross stitch store, all framed up by Way Cool Mats:  Treasures of The Deep, by Shannon Christine Designs.

Treasures of the Deep framed

I thought I captured a good image of this one, but I didn’t.  It really has a lot of beads.  So much so, that in some angles it looks really gaudy, like in the top of the photo.  And then from a different angle, it looks like the bottom of the image.  Sometimes the mermaids get drowned out by all of the beads.  I didn’t think there could ever be too many beads on a project, but this one I think may just have too many.  I do love all the little mermaids though.

March 1 was my 7 year Blogaversary!  I can’t believe I have been posting on this little ole blog for 7 years now!  And I still love it.  I just need to make the time to post more often. I will try this year 😉

So that is all I have for now.  I do have a few knitting projects and crochet projects going on, too.  I will post about them next time.  So what are you stitching on today?

Happy Valentine’s Day!!

Hello my blogging friends, and Happy Valentine’s Day!  I hope you have a wonderful day however you celebrate this loving day.  I can’t believe it’s February!  I have been so busy and the days have just gotten away from me.  I had so many days I wanted to post, and just didn’t get to it. So, this one may be a long one.  Grab your favorite beverage and get comfy.

I suppose I should start with my birthday, that happened near the end of January.  To celebrate, Hubby took me to a winery about 1 1/2 hours from our house.  They just so happened to be having a Winter Wine and Wool festival the weekend of my birthday and I had decided that is what I wanted to do.

Winery sign

I was so excited to get there after the drive.  If you know me, you know I don’t like being in a car on the highway.  So nerve wracking.

Wine tasting room

This was my first time to an actual winery.  This one was a very sweet, inviting place. Once inside, I made my way to the yarn and bag vendors.  It was a very small place for an event like this.  There was almost no room to get up and down the hallways.  So I searched out the 2 main booths I wanted to shop at.

AJHC yarn booth

So many scrumptious yarns! See that yellow/orange and red cowl on the left?  I picked up some mini skeins to make that.  And a few other skeins to make a shawl.

Yarn stash from winery

Then I found the MidMitten Designs Project Bag Booth and purchased a bag and some small notions bags.

Me at Midmitten Bags booth

Love this new Sassy Style bag!  There is already a project in it 😉  Then is was time for some wine tasting.

Winery

This was a Raspberry wine, perfect to pair with chocolate!  Hello!!  I came home with a bottle of this one and a Meade wine.  Hubby spoiled me so much for my birthday.  It was not so bad turning 55 😉

If you remember from one of my previous posts, we found out that we have to have our basement waterproofed.  So hubby and I have been going through things, donating things, pitching things and putting things aside for our boys and hauling it all up and out to the garage.  We have done quite a bit, but we are not going to be ready for the end of February, so we have moved it to April 1 with the contractor coming to remove the drywall and carpet the last week in March.  I can’t believe how much we have accumulated in the 23  years we have been here.  So we are still working on that a little at a time and in between, I am still stitching.  So, lots to show you with that.  First, I finished the Treasures of the Deep SAL.

Mermaid SAL finished

Sorry about the blurry photo.  Just couldn’t capture it right.  But it is finished with all the hundreds of tiny beads.  I have to admit, that looking at it from a certain angle, it looks a bit gaudy, but then from another angle it looks beautiful and sparkly.

close of december mermaid

I stayed up until 1:00 in the morning to finish it so I could take it to the cross stitch shop to put it in for framing.  Here is the frame I chose for it:

Frame for mermaid SAL.jpg

I was not going to go with a gold frame, but nothing else seemed to work.  I think this one will be perfect.  And while I was there, a framing was ready to be picked up.

2018 Mystery Sampler framed

I absolutely LOVE how this turned out!!  So beautiful.  The frame is so perfect, too.

Frame for 2018 sampler

The weathering on this one matches perfectly with the variegated threads.  Now I will need to find a place to hang this one, so I can see it all the time.

While in the cross stitch shop, I was inspired to start a new project; the 2019 Mystery Sampler.  I had already ordered a piece of Graceful Gray 16ct Aida by Wichelt, which was there for me to pick up.  On my last trip I had picked up a smaller piece of the fabric and a pink silk thread. I started stitching the peacock, but the pink was too light for the fabric.  So I hadn’t thought anymore about color, until I was in the shop.  And I saw the beautiful variegated thread that I thought would be perfect for a “Peacock Garden”, which is what the new sampler is called.  The thread is Gloriana, a silk and the color is called Rain Forest.  How perfect!!

Threads for 2019 Mystery Sampler

I will use it for the borders. So I picked out a color that matched for my peacock.  And this is what happened:

2019 Mystery Sampler start

And look at that! I am using a Q-snap frame :O I am cringing that my aida fabric will be pretty wrinkled.  I am not used to that with using a scroll frame.  But I used this for the beading the last half of my mermaid SAL so I didn’t roll over the beads, and it worked pretty good.  So I thought I would try it for this Mystery Sampler.  Here is what the January and February sections will look like for this sampler:

2019 Peacock garden

It is different than the last 2 samplers.  This one reminds me more of a Round Robin.  I can’t wait to see what will end up in all of those squares.  If you want to get in on this sampler (or the last 2) they are all FREE and put out by Linen and Threads.  So sweet of them to do this.  There is also a Facebook group where people from all over the world are stitching this and sharing and connecting.  It’s awesome.

Now for my last project.  On February 6, I started this project and was so excited:

Floral shawl first start

By the end of the day, I was so frustrated with this project.  It is the Floral Shawl from Woolenberry.  I was just not coming up with the correct amount of stitches at the end of row 7.  I knitted back several times, ripped out several times, and then just gave up.  Then I decided to leave a comment on Ravelry for the designer to see if there was an update or to figure out what I was doing wrong.  So after several emailings back and forth with the Sweet Janina Kallio, I kept trying.  I arrived at row twenty something and thought I was doing well.  My floral pattern didn’t really look right and I was still concerned about the yo ssk knit 3.  It just wasn’t feeling right.  I was ending up with a yo after the ssk.  Anyway, a light bulb finally went off in my head yesterday and I finally figured out what I was doing wrong.  I was knitting the ssk on the front needle instead of the back needle.  What was I thinking?  I knew better. All I can say is that it was a very senior moment.  And after a week of frustration, I am happy to say that I am all straightened out and I have the correct stitch count and my floral pattern is looking lovely.  I am using AJHC Wool’s Rhea.

Floral Shawl start

If you look in the bag, I am almost up to the frogged strands.

So there you have it.  I told you it would be a long post.  I think I am all caught up now.  If you are still with me, thank you 🙂  That is just about everything I have been up to.  So now I want to hear what you have been up to? Have you started a new project? If not,  what are you working on?

A Finish, A near Finish and A New Start!

Hello my blogging friends!  It’s a bit of a snowy day outside, so I am inside, organizing, cleaning and now it’s time for a blog post 🙂  Thanksgiving is over, and I kept my emotions under check better than I expected to.  And ever since, I have been cleaning and organizing and making piles to give away and donate.  I tend to do this when I am sad or angry.  It feels good to get organized and having things put into place.  I really cleaned my laundry room and my craft room, making room for new storage containers 😉  I am hoping my craft room will be better organized for me to get in there and get my Christmas cards made and get back to my scrapbooking.  Now onto stitching stuff!

First, I have a finish.  Pink Princess is complete and I am over the moon in love with her. I even found the little butterfly bead to put into her hand instead of stitching a butterfly.  Not sure if you can see it in the photo.  It is a beautiful bead with blues and greens and purples and pinks.  Perfect for her hand.

I think she turned out so amazing!  She is Dawn, the Fairy Spirit of Grace by Passione Ricamo.  I stitched her without the wings, even though she is a beauty with them as well.  I stitched her on 16ct Aida Tintagel from Fabrics by Stephanie.  A gorgeous Princess on a gorgeous piece of fabric.

So now I am back to stitching on the Treasures of the Deep piece.  November mermaid is up right now.

Treasures of the Deep SAL November

I finished all the stitching last night.  I am hoping to get the backstiching all done tonight so that I can dive into a new project.   Yeah, I know, another project, right?  Anyway, this one is Treasures of the Deep SAL from Shannon Christine designs.  The fabric is 16ct Aida Maldivian Dreams from Fiberlicious.  Just December and January left of this SAL and then all the gorgeous, sparkly beads can be added.  This one is really blinged to the max!

So, what is my new project you ask?  Well, it is another mermaid.  This one is Aquamarina from Bella Filapina. I ordered her in August and she arrived sometime in October.  I quickly gathered up all the DMC threads, beads and Kreiniks for her and special ordered a fabric for her.  Last night I received this gorgeous fabric and I squealed with delight!

fabric for Aquamarina from FDFOh my gosh!  Isn’t it just breathtaking?  It is 16ct Aida from Fantasy Dyed Fabrics.  Johanna did an amazing job on creating this one for me.  So I am hoping to start this new project tomorrow, even if I have to stay up super late finishing the back stitching on the November mermaid.

Aquamarina new start

So that is what I am up to today.  What are you stitching on?  Do you have a new project you want to get started on?

The Flu, a Finish and Some Stitching

Hello blogging friends!  I feel like I have been missing in action for months.  So grab your favorite beverage as this may be a long post 🙂  I am finally recovering from having the flu for the last 2 weeks.  The first week I didn’t do much except ache, sleep and fight a fever.  Ugh, I am so glad that is over.  Just before getting sick, I went to Joanns craft store and bought some crystals to finish my Chandelier piece.  I came home and laid them out and then went back again and picked up more to cover all the places I wanted a jewel to hang.  So last week I sat and sewed them all on.  Here is my finished piece.

chandelier-finished-with-crystals-1.jpg

I really like how it came out.  The crystals are sparkly, even though they don’t show much here.  And I am glad to have this finish off the scroll frame.   This was a AAN SAL stitched on 16ct Winter Solstice from Fabrics by Stephanie.   Here are a couple of more pictures.

I also finished the March Mermaid on the Treasures of the Deep SAL by Shannon Christine Designs.

Mermaid SAL march mermaid

This is a SAL put out by Fiberlicious and I am stitching it on 16ct Maldivian Dreams by Fiberlicious.  I also stitched a couple of more frames to be ready for the next few mermaids.  There will be 12 in all, each mermaid representing a birth month.  So sweet!

mermaid SAL Feb March mermaids

I also stitched on the 2nd block of the PR 20th anniversary piece and this is how far I am before putting it away.

20th anniversary block 2

20th anniversary progress

I have pulled out an old WIP to work on for now.  I call her the Pink Princess.

Pink Princess progress

I will be stitching her without the wings.  I started her March 2015.  I can’t believe it has been 3 years!  The fabric is amazing!  It is 16ct Tintagel from Fabrics by Stephanie.  I am LOVING all the pink in this one.  It’s going to be amazing!

And when I am not stitching, I am working on a new hobby; Diamond Painting!  My best stitchy friend sent me a custom made Diamond Painting for my Birthday.  It is actually a picture of a photograph I had taken a couple of years ago.  It was such a thoughtful gift and I am loving Diamond Painting.

Diamond Painting

I am about 1/2 finished placing all the little tiles down.  I find it quite addicting.  When I plan about a half hour to work on it, several hours can go by.  It is very peaceful and calming. If you don’t know what Diamond Painting is, it is kind of like cross stitching, but without a needle.  The canvas is a sticky pattern filled with little squares with symbols that correspond to a colored tile.  Much like a colored cross stitch pattern.  The tiles are picked up with a pen with wax in the bottom of it and the tiles are placed on the corresponding symbol.  I am loving it and already thinking about my next canvas 😉  I am not going to reveal the finished picture just yet.  Can you tell what it is?

Well, I think I have taken up enough of your time for now.  I am happy to be doing better and getting back to a normal routine.  What have you been crafting on lately?

Stitching and More Snow!

Hello friends!  Happy March!  I have no idea where February went, but I do hope that March slows down a bit.  And it is coming in like a Lion!  This is what it looks like out my window right now:

IMG_2596 (2)

Really?  After all of our snow had finally melted and we have had temperatures in the 50’s the last 3 days.  We are expecting 4-6 inches today.  It has been snowing steady for the last 4 hours and starting to pile up out there.  Good thing I have no plans to be out today or tomorrow.  Enough about the white stuff.  Let’s get to the stitchy stuff 🙂

First, I brought this adorable little pixie home from the framer a couple of weekends ago.

White Angel Trumpet framed

She is the White Trumpet Angel by Nora Corbett.  I stitched her on a one of a kind hand dyed fabric from Fantasy Dyed Fabrics in 16ct Aida.  If you haven’t checked out her fabrics, you should.  She usually posts new fabrics on her Etsy on Monday’s and you can purchase what she posts right away.  She has great customer service and super fast shipping.  She is so sweet!  I have yet to hang her in my craft room, (the framed piece, not Johanna, LOL)  but I will.  She will join the other 3 pixies I have hanging in there.

I have been stitching on the Passione Ricamo 20th Anniversary piece and finished the first block a few nights ago.  Sorry for the crooked picture.

PR 20th anniversary progress 1

This piece is going to be amazing when it is finished.  Here is a close up of the block I just finished:

first block on PR SAL

It was so much easier stitching this block than it was that Fairy to the right.  It probably took me about a week of evenings to stitch her.   I hope all of the blocks go as quick, then I can have this piece finished in a few months.  Wouldn’t that be awesome!

And I have a new start!  When you see what it is, you will know why I couldn’t resist…

Treasures of the Deep

A year of mermaids!!!  WOW!  As soon as this was released, my BSF (Best Stitchy Friend) sent the link over to me and I caved almost immediately.  She is such an enabler, LOL.  But I love her and she knows me so well.  So this is a year long SAL designed by Shannon Christine and put out by Fiberlicious.  I have received all of my supplies and started it the other night.  Here is my progress:

Start on Mermaid SAL

The mermaids are birthstone mermaids and the SAL starts with February.  Isn’t she just the sweetest little mermaid?  And boy is this piece full of bling!!  But my beads and crystals will have to wait until the very end.  I am stitching on 16ct Aida Maldivian Dream from Fiberlicious.  It is a beautiful hand painted fabric.   If you are interested in this SAL, you can order through Fiberlicious.

Well, that is what I have been up to.  What are you up to these days?  Do you have any new starts?   What WIP project are you trying to get finished?
