Mediterannean Mermaid back from the Framer

Good afternoon friends.  I went to my LNS this morning and picked up Mediterranean Mermaid, all framed and looking lovely.  Here she is:

I love how she turned out.  Not too much frame, no mat, all the focus on her and all of her sparkly beauty.  I’m not sure where I am going to hang her as I think I have run out of wall space.  But I will find the perfect place for her soon. The framing was done by Juanita at Way Cool Mats as is most of my framings.  She always does an awesome job.

While at my LNS, Stitches N Things  I picked up a few things that I had ordered as well as a few new things from the shop.  First, look at this wonderful holder I found:

Isn’t it just lovely?  Remember this pattern I picked up in Stoney Creek Magazine?

Well, it will look great on this holder.  And what’s cool about it is that I can have the Summer Banner put on Mat board (some day, when I get it sttiched) and the holder can be used as an easel.  That way I don’t have to stitch it onto the frame and I can re-use.  It can also hold a project in progress like this:

It will work well with Q-snaps also.  And do you know what else is cool about this holder??  You can change out the top!  Yep!  The company that makes it has many different toppers.  The shop also had a Halloween one that was cool.  Now if I can just get this project started.  Unfortunately,  20ct white Lugana is on back order and has been since I first picked up the Stoney Creek magazine with the Summer Banner in it.  After picking up the June issue of Stoney Creek today (it has the Fall Banner in it and had to get it) there is a new Christmas afghan series in that is going to run for like 2 years.  It also uses 20ct White Lugana and I think that many, many people are going to do this project.  It uses almost 2 yards of fabric, so I am sure it will be a while before I get my 4 measley pieces of white 20ct Lugana.  Oh well, you know I wasn’t going to finish the Summer Banner for this summer anyway.

Here is the rest of my purchases from this visit and my last visit to the LNS:

A candle screen from Sudberry House.  I am not a country person, but this really appealed to me.  The Monogram chart for the candle screen and The Lovely Alphabet both from The Sunflower Seed.  I am not sure what the difference in the 2 alphabets are..but the sample that I saw said that it used the Lovely Alphabet and I thought it was different than the monograms, but I don’t think it is.  I also purchased Nora Corbett’s Cherry Blossom and bead pack the last time I was there.  I am saving her to stitch on Johanna’s RR when I get it.  And I actually found 2 pieces of 16ct Aida hand dyed fabrics the last time I was at the Lady Bug Shoppe.  One is called Truffle and the other is Glory.  Not sure what I will use them for, but they are lovely and I am sure I will find something to stitch on them some day.

Well my friends,  thank you for visiting today and sticking with my very long post today.  Makes up for my lack of posting recently.  Happy Stitching!

Craft projects

Awesome Grassy Wreath

I don’t have a cross stitch to share.  Not even a knitting project, but I do have a project to share that uses yarn.

Isn’t this cool?  My  friend Lori  sent me a link for this a couple of month’s ago.  I started this project last month and finally finished it today.  It was a DIY project and you can find all the info at www.thecreativeplace.blogspot.com and search for Spring Wreath.   I tried to put a direct link, but I couldn’t get it to work and my IT man is out of town.  Basically I purchased a 12″ foam floral wreath (the directions say 8″ but I wanted mine a little bigger).  And then the fun begins…wrapping 3 skeins of fun fur yarn around the wreath, tightly to form “grass”.  I finally finished my wrapping last night.  Then I purchased 1 yard of daisy trim.  I clipped each daisy apart and inserted a quilting pin with a yellow head to match the yellow center of my daisies.  I wanted pink daisies as per the original instructions, but couldn’t find pink in my local stores.  Then I stuck them into the wreath.  Not all the way, but raised a little so it looks like they are laying on the grass.  I printed the sign saying on the computer and die cut it out with Stampin’ Up!’s Apothecary Accents Framelits.  I distressed the edges with a sponge and brown ink, stamped a couple of flowers on it and  glued a portion of a skewer to the back so I could stick it into the wreath.  I had these Jolee’s foam Flip Flops for some time and knew they would come in perfect for this project.  Here is a close up:

I tied a length of ribbon around the top and it is now hanging on my front door.  Thank you Lori for passing this idea on to me.  I just LOVE it!! I am leaving mine on my front door all summer as it will remind me what grass is supposed to look like when there is enough rain.  Hehe.  Thanks for visiting.

Mirabilia Round Robin

FINALLY, A FINISH!

Hello my friends.  I finally have a finish to share with you today.

It’s Donner on Sophia’s RR.  I have been working on him all month.  With my back and sciatica giving me problems, I didn’t think I would get him finished by the deadline, but I finished him late last night.  And with a week to spare.  Here is the entire piece:

Sophia stitched all of the squares and those of us in the group are just stitching the reindeer-minus the beads and treasures.  This piece is so awesome.  I can’t wait to see this piece finished.  The fabric is perfect and sparkly.  This was a joy to stitch on.  Even with my back problems.  Thanks for visiting.

Frogs

Tree Frogs

In case you didn’t know this about me; I love frogs.  Not real ones and not the mean ones that cause trouble on your stitching, but the ones that are cute and in pictures and stuffed animals and all kinds of other things.  A few years ago I bought one of those Bolo Bags and was originally going to do some flower design on it.  But a few days later, I knew just what I was going to put on it…

FROGS!!!  The pattern is a Funk & Weber Design called Red eyed Tree Frog.  Hubby made a mirror image for me and I stitched them both ways all over the bag. There is a total of 7 frogs on the bag.  Here is a close up of one of the frogs:

Isn’t he just too cute?  And I love the bag.  It’s great in the summer time when I go to the park or a baseball game or track event. I  Can throw a project in there, camera, sunscreen, snacks, whatever!  I believe the bag is from Zweigart.  Thanks for visiting today.

Enchanted Mermaid and an award

Hello my  blogging friends.  I am still having back issues, so not much stitching done. But I am making slow progress on Sophia’s Reindeer RR. Hopefully tonight I can really do some serious stitching on Donner.   So  I will share another of my favorite mermaids with you today.

She is Enchanted Mermaid.  But I think she should be the Mermaid Queen as her pose is so similar to the Queens that Nora Corbett created.  I love how this Mermaid sparkles under the spotlight, dead center in my living room.  You can’t help but gaze at her as you come down the steps into my lower level.  I stitched her up in 2007 and was so happy when she was finished.  I was not happy when I had her framed.  I’n not really a Mat person, but when I took her into the shop to be framed, the fabric was too small.  WHAT!!  A gal that had worked at the shop, briefly, cut my fabric too small and I didn’t realize it.  So when I took it in to be framed, it had to have a “puzzle cut”.  Which means that the Mermaid is on a board just about the size she is in the center, so I could get the border I wanted around her.  I don’t like the mat at all, and one day I will probably have her re-framed or just get so much time on my hands and re-stitch her.  For now I try to look at just her beauty and not the framing.

Ok…So now that I have shown you a mermaid, I have to tell you about an award I was given by a fellow blogger. I was given this award:

Mermaid share

Hello my blogging friends.  My back has been giving me grief for the last 2 weeks so hubby suggested I take a break from stitching as I sit in a weird position.  So I haven’t stitched in a couple of days so I don’t have a WIP share.  I do however have another mermaid (they are my favorite, you know) to share that I did a few years back:

She is Mirabilia’s Shimmering Mermaid.  I stitched her up in 2005 on 16ct Aida.  I don’t know the color, sorry.  She was a fun stitch and I love all of the patterns on her body as wells as the purple ribbons.

My back is feeling a little better today, so hopefully I can get some stitching done on Sophia’s Reindeer RR this weekend.  Thank you for visiting.  Have a great weekend and may your stitching be “Frog Free”!

Progress on Angel and another WIP

Well, it seems I haven’t had much stitching time lately, but here is my progress with Angel of Grace:

She is coming along and without the frogs, thank heavens.  I did put her down last week and gave some love to this fabulously pink table topper:

This lovely pattern is from At home with Needlework.  I can’t tell you the issue, it seems I have misplaced it.  It is from a few years ago.  The fabric is  11 ct Zweigart Ready-Made Oktav Table Topper in a beautiful shade of pink.  I didn’t get a good photo of the color, but believe me, it is pink.  I finished the outline on this design and now I have to repeat 3 more times.

Here is a closer look at the design in full. I do have to zoom in on that butterfly and it’s special stitching.

Well, that’s it for my progress this last week.  I received my next RR in the mail and started it this weekend.  It’s gorgeous and I will post a photo when I finish my block.  Thanks for visiting.

Something New

Good morning.  A few weeks ago I picked up an issue of the Cross Stitch Collection magazine.  It had a beautiful fairy on the front and I just had to take a peek inside (that magazine obsession again).

It turns out it is a Joan Elliott pattern and I picked it up thinking I would give her a try.  I haven’t stitched any of her patterns before and thought this fairy was sweet.  So dear hubby took me to a small LNS where we found the perfect hand dyed 28ct Lavender Sunset fabric.  And I found a beautiful 28ct Summer Sky that would be perfect for any Angel or Fairy.  And the best part…hubby purchased the fabrics for me.  What a sweetie.

So now I have yet another project to add to my over-flowing collection.  And I now have 3 beautiful hand dyed fabrics that I can’t wait to stitch on some day.
