Mermaids

Galatea

Hello.  I’m obsessed with wanting hand dyed fabric right now.  I see other stitchers blog posts showing some beautiful hand dyes and I want some.  My local shops don’t have much to offer and maybe deep down I am really looking for some hand dyed Aida.  I have only stitched on hand dyed once and here is what I stitched:

She is Passione Ricamo’s Galatea mermaid.  I stitched this piece in 2009 on  28 ct Griffon from Sugar Maple fabrics.  I believe that Sugar Maple is no longer in business and I remember it taking about 3 1/2 months to get my fabric.  I recently told someone I thought it might be Silkweaver, but I just found my info on this piece and it was Sugar Maple fabrics that I had so much trouble with.  So I have been a little leery about ordering hand dyes ever since.  But I see so many beautiful fabrics on-line and I’m really itching to get some. I love the colors on this fabric and I am pleased with how Galatea turned out.

Last weekend when I visited my LNS, she recommended Picture this Plus as a good place to find some really nice hand dyes.   I checked them out and they do have some fabulous lovelies!  I’ll have to start making a list.  I did pick up a piece of hand dyed last weekend and Hubby was so sweet and purchased 2 pieces of hand dyed fabric a couple of weeks ago.  I will post them this weekend.

Fairies

Fairy Flora

Good morning my stitching friends.  I am afraid I have been missing in action for the last few weeks.  It’s just been a busy time for me with my son just finishing up track, the end of school nearing, and catalog transition for Stampin’ Up!  So I am afraid that I don’t have any updates to my stitching projects as I haven’t been able to stitch much.  I did put the Mediterranean Mermaid in to be framed yesterday and will post a photo when I get her back. I also picked up a few things and ordered a few things, so I will share those later this week.   Today I thought I would share another one of my finishes from a while back.  She is Fairy Flora:

I finished stitching her up in 1995.  She is stitched on 28ct Jobelan, a pretty shade of blue.  It was the first time I stitched on 28ct fabric.  Well, it’s going to be a warm one here in Michigan today, so I need to finish the laundry before it gets too hot in the house.  I’m hoping to pick up my needle tonight and add a few stitches to something.  I lhope that your needle is gliding through fabric today, too.

snowmen

Autumn Time Snowman

Good morning.  I am getting ready to go to the Great Lakes Mega Meet Scrapbook Convention and wanted to share my latest stitching project.

This one has been in my rotation for over a year now and I had to give him some love last night.  He is Autumn Time Snowman and was featured in the September 2010 issue of Cross Stitch & Needlework magazine.  This is for a friend who loves snowmen and I hope to get it done for Christmas this year since I missed it last year.  I would also like to stitch the other 3 seasons in this series as they are so cute.  I am about 1/2 done with this one.  Thanks for stopping by to see what I have been up to.  Have a great day!

Mermaids

Mediterranean Mermaid is finished!

Hello.  I finished my Mediterranean Mermaid last night.

She is beautiful and sparkly!  I didn’t think I would ever get done beading her.  She is stitched on 16ct Aida Star Saphire.  I am not sure when I will get her framed, but when I do, I will post her again.  Here are a couple of close-up’s of her:

This mermaid was the first piece that I put into rotation January of last year.  After a couple of months of rotating out several projects, I decided I couldn’t have a bunch of un-finished projects.  So I have been stitching between this one and the Angel of Grace.  Now that mermaid is done,  the Angel is my next project.

Angels

Angel of Grace

Hello my stitching friends.  I had to give this piece a little love last night.  It is one that has been in my “rotation” for over a year now. It is Angel of Grace by Lorri Birmingham Designs.

She has not been a fun stitch. I had her stitched about down to her hands and realized that she was too far to the left.  I was going to add a Bible verse, but I realized the ribbons on her dress were going to be too far to the left edge.  So…I spent  a lot of time ripping her out.  I had to put her away for a while before I re-started her.  I haven’t stitched on her in a couple of months and thought she needed a bit of tending to last night. She is stitched on 28ct Salmon/Gold Linen banding.  And I must say it is the most UNEVEN fabric I have ever worked on!!!  It was a very expensive piece of fabric and the pattern says that the linen was spun in Ireland and woven in Germany on a 150 year old wooden loom.  Well, it has good history, but it is not fun to stitch on.  I probably purchased this pattern back in 2000 and wanted to stitch it for my Mom.  I was hoping to get it done for Christmas 2011, but now I am hoping for Christmas 2012.

New stash!

What do you think?

So I went to my LNS this past weekend for some retail therapy.  I had wanted to pick up a few patterns for some up-coming round robins and a couple of other patterns I have been wanting.  The 2 new fairies from Nora Corbett were not in and neither was the new Santa.   So here is what I did pick up:

Donner, to add to my Reindeer collection-I think I have 5 now.  Lady Alexandra and 16 count “Dirty Aida” to do her on.  I also picked up the fabric for Spring Angel.  I already had the pattern in my collection and was inspired to get her going by Catherine.  You can see her Spring start here. So I went to work on deciding on a fabric.  I really wanted a hand dyed since I see them all over the blog world and they are gorgeous.  But there were only 2 in 16 ct. aida that would be a possibility, but no-go.  So I finally decided on  Sea Spray 16 ct. aida which is actually  little brighter blue than how it looks in the photo  above.  But when I left the store, I started second guessing myself and thought I should have gone with what the pattern called for, Twilight Blue, which is what I did my Summer Angel in. So what do you think?  Sea Spray or Twilight Blue?  Decisions, decisions…I have time as I probably won’t start her right away.  Leave me a comment and let me know what you would choose.  Also, is there anyone else out there that uses 16 ct. aida??

Mirabilia Round Robin

Another Round Robin Finish

I finished my block on Catherine’s Round Robin last week.  Her theme is Roses and I stitched Damask Roses.  Here is my block:

Here is the finished piece.

My lady is quite large compared to the other ladies, but I think she turned out pretty good.  I also stitched the rose in the triangle below my block.  This is a very well laid out piece.  Catherine did a lot of work stitching all of her blocks and I can’t wait to see this piece finished at the end of the year.

Romanitc

The Kiss

Good morning.  Before I get started on my stitching for today, I thought I would share another Mirabilia piece with you.

This one is titled “The Kiss”.  I stitched this one up in 1997 on 16 count Aida.  Not sure of the color of the cloth-a peachy color-but it is very pretty.  I added little Bee charms in the corner as per the pattern and thought this was a nice added touch. This piece hangs in my bedroom so I can admire it every day.  It is a favorite.

Queens

Summer Queen

It looks like a beautiful summer day looking out the window.  The weather channel says it’s going to be up around 66 degrees.  Though that is not summer, I will take it and share with you Summer Queen.

This is Mirabilia’s Summer Queen and she is quite fabulous!  I love the colors and the bead drapes.  She is stitched on 16 count white Aida.  I stitched her up in 1998 and she hangs in my upstairs hallway with Spring and Autumn Queens.
