Hand Dyed Obsession and RR progress

I think the title speaks for the photos.

My fabric storageThis is an under the bed storage box that I have all of my hand dyed fabrics in. I remember when I didn’t have any hand dyes, and now I am obsessed with buying them.  And I have plans for every one 😉  Well, most of them.  Some may be just too pretty to stitch on right now.  But I have them on hand when I need.  I am not a patient person, so waiting for hand dyed fabric to come in the mail is very hard for me.  So now I have a pretty good stash.

some of stephanies fabricsJust some of my  Hand Dyed Fabrics by Stephanie.

Silkweaver fabrics

Some from Silkweaver.  Just can’t seem to stay away from their auctions 🙂

PTP fabricsA few from Picture This Plus from last years sale.

Liberty and CalypsoThese are my 2 latest fabrics from Stephanie. On the left is her limited edition Liberty and on the right is Calypso.  Both are 16ct Aida and both are gorgeous!!  Not sure what I am going to put on Liberty, but Calypso is perfect for a mermaid 😉

And here is what I am currently working on.  When I can stay awake that is.  I have been getting up at 5:00 am 4-5 days a week to walk with a friend and it has been really kicking my butt.  Can’t seem to stay awake at night to stitch.  Hence the very little progress.

Geisha on Julies RRThis is going to be Joan Elliott’s Eastern Promise on Julie’s Asian RR. Sorry for the bad photo, but the colors are truly bright and beautiful and Julie’s fabric is a blue sky with a touch of tan here and there.  It’s gorgeous!

That is my update for now.  Thank you for visiting and have a safe and wonderful Labor Day weekend.

Siren Weekend Update

In the middle of cutting tons of card stock this weekend, I was able to find a little time to stitch on Siren and Shipwreck. Here is my progress:

Siren update

She is coming along fabulously.  I am working on the tail and loving the colors.  Unfortunately, I have to put her away for a while as I have 2 Round Robins in my possession that are screaming for my attention.  In case this is your first time seeing posts about my Siren, it is Mirabilia’s Siren and the Shipwreck and I am stithcing  her on 16 ct Aida Under the Sea from Sunny Dyes Fabrics.

What I am working on…

I feel like I am going in so many directions right now.  First, some knitting:

pidge with bamboo

I started on my next pidge for Sue.  I’m using Bamboo needles for the first time and I am liking them with this yarn.  Usually I love the way the yarn glides on my quicksilver needles, but with the Bamboo yarn, the needles hold my knitting in place.  The Bamboo yarn is so soft and silky that the project would have probably slipped off of my quicksilvers  several times by now.  And since I am constantly moving the yarn back and forth to form the ribbing, the Bamboo needles are working great to hold my knitting on the needles.  I really like working with the Bamboo yarn and I like how it is knitting up.  Except for my right edge..on the prior row, the last stitched is slipped.  So when I start the next row, there isn’t anything to pull or tighten, so my right edge looks really sloppy and loose.

I’m also stitching on Karen’s beautiful Round Robin.  She wants any Joan Elliott pattern that has purple.  Of course, Lavender came to mind right away, so that is what I am stitching.  I will share a photo when I get her done.

I also went shopping at my LNS and this is what I picked up:

More stitchy stuff

My next Santa’s cottage.  I need to start that piece this summer.  Nora Corbett’s Spring Fairie.  I am hoping to start her companion piece, Winter Fairie sometime this year.  And Stitches N Things (my LNS) was having a Birthday sale and would kit up any pattern purchased for 21% off.  They kitted up Nora’s Siren’s Song mermaid.  I was quite surprised at how small she is.  The piece of Water Lilly 16ct Aida fabric is only 12 x 18 and that is including 3″ all the way around for framing.  I probably won’t use that fabric for her, but the “kitted up part” included DMC floss, beads, kreinik, and fabric.    I will probably use a hand dyed fabric from my stash to stitch her on.  I will decide that when it’s time to work on her.

In my last post I told you I signed up for Passione Ricamo’s Mystery SAL.  I received my fabric and purchased all of my flosses for this one.  Here it is:

Pixie Dust for mystery SALEveryone is saying it’s going to be a mermaid.  This is what  I envisioned her on. Silkweaver’s Pixie Dust in 28 ct Lugana. LOVE this fabric!   This SAL starts next week and I can’t wait!  Most of my Rainbow Gallery Petite braids are on backorder.  Everyone is having a time getting them.  Some beads are also on backorder.  So I will be patient (who knew?) and will stitch around the PB if they are needed right away. If you want to get in on this one, there is still time.  You have until June 14 to join up.  Click on my Passione link above to get the details.  This SAL will start on June 15 and will go until November or December.  It’s going to be fun!

Well, that’s all of my stitchy news for now.  Oh, I have also kitted up Mirabilia’s Siren and the Shipwreck so I will be starting that one once I finish the block on the Round Robin.  I will be working on 2 mermaids at once!  Well, not at the same exact time.  I’m not that talented, hehe.  I will post my starts on both of these projects once I get going on them.  For now, happy stitching!

Some Stitching, a Framing and Some Goodies

It’s been a while since I posted.  So I have lots to share.  First, some stitching.

chicadee on right side

I finally finished the chickadee and cherry blossoms on the right side of my Geisha Round Robin just in time for mailing last week.  The title will have to wait until it returns home next year.  Here is how the whole thing looked before mailing it off to Johanna:

Geisha RR ready for mailing

I’m pretty happy with how it turned out, except that the fabric is 28ct Jobelan.  Too stretchy for me. Since I like my fabric taught when I stitch and I tend to stitch a little too tight,  the piece seems to be a little out of shape now.  Maybe it will go back into place after everyone does their stitching on it.  I’ll deal with that once it comes back home.  It’s going to be so bright and colorful when it’s finished.  I know that the 7 gals that will be stitching on it will do a great job.  And I am looking forward to stitching on theirs.

While we are on the subject of Round Robins, this is the Round Robin I did last year.  I finally put it in to be framed a few weeks ago and picked it up today.  I tried a new framer, and not sure if I am 100% happy with it yet or not.  There seems to be some puckering at the bottom, but I will leave it for a few days to see if the hot, humid weather has anything to do with it.

Fairy RR framed

Sorry about the poor photo.  Seems I may have to enlist a friend with her awesome photo taking abilities to come and take blog photos for me.  My camera is just not doing the trick these days.  Anyway, I love all the fairies that were stitched for me on this piece.  So beautiful and sparkly in person.

Now for some goodies.  A few months back I won this from  Pretty Little Things in a Box  blog giveaway.

Copy of 100_5131She made some really cute vintage rings and I won this adorable one.  She folded the back down so it almost lays flat.  I may use it that way.  Not sure yet.  If you want to make your own, you can visit her blog for directions on how she creates them.

Next up is a piece of fabric I won over at My Stitchy Ramblings blog.

Goodies from KarenOMG!  I totally fell in love with this piece of fabric!  It has nice light colors, it’s 16 ct Aida and it’s SPARKLY!!  So, so beautiful.  I love it, Karen.  And she was so sweet and made me some awesome scroll covers for my scroll frames.  Isn’t she just the sweetest?  I will post a pic soon with the monkey ones on my scroll frame.

So, I think I am caught up now…I am currently stitching on Karen’s Round Robin, but don’t want to post until I am finished.  I have some things on order, some things kitted up to start and just last week I signed up for Passione Ricamao’s Mystery SAL.  This will be a first for me-SAL and Mystery SAL.  The enablers out there  seem to think it’s a mermaid (thanks Julie 🙂 ) And you all know that I can’t resist a mermaid.  Hopefully I won’t be away for quite so long next time.  I have missed you 🙂

It’s Official..I am addicted!

I’m addicted to Stephanie’s Hand Dyed fabrics!  Look what arrived in the mail today:

Stephys fabbies sale day 2

Yep.  More of Stephanie’s fabrics from her sale.  They are all just gorgeous!  From left to right they are:  Loki, Seafoam, Haunting, Falling Leaves, Snow Drifts Opalescent, and Isolde Opalescent.  All are 16ct Aida and all are so delicious looking!  The sparkly aida’s are so pretty!  I can’t wait to stitch on all of my stephy’s fabbies!  My favorite from this batch is definitely Haunting.  I love the pinks and grays.   Ok, time to get stitching!

Emerald is Getting Beaded

I’m about half way through beading Emerald Mermaid.  She is looking awesome!

Beading Emerald

I should be finished with her this week.  She really has a lot of beads on her.  But the more beads, the more sparkle 🙂  When I finish her, it will be time to start my Asian design for the Joan Eliott Round Robin.  I received my fabric from Stephanie on Saturday. It was a long time trying to get what I wanted.  Stephanie worked really hard to make me happy.  Here is what she came up with:

Mocha Delight

It is 28 ct Jobelan Mocha Delight.  There isn’t a lot of color variations in the fabric but the color is really going to make my Geisha girls pop as well as the cherry blossoms I intend to put on my layout.  I will post a picture when I get it stitched and ready to go.  Thank you Stephanie for taking the time to make me happy 🙂

NEW MERMAID STASH!

I have to share some new stitchy stuff I received in the mail today:

Mermaid stash and fabric

Stitches N Things called me yesterday to say that all of beads, treasures, pattern and fabric were in.  They mailed and I received today!  They are so good to me 🙂  The pattern is Siren and the Shipwreck by Mirabilia and I will tell you that I just want to get started on her right now!  But I can’t.  I have to finish Emerald and then I have to get my next Round Robin going.  More about that in a minute.  The fabric above is Sea Lily in 16ct Aida.  Since I have not been having a lot of luck with the hand dyed fabrics, I have decided to stick with the solid Aida for Siren.  I may change my mind by the time I get ready to start stitching her, but for now that is the plan .  There are some other pretty beads that the pattern calls for, but they are already in my stash.

Here is what I received in the mail onMonday:

New fabric from Stephanie

Four hand dyed fabrics from Stephanie. Top left is Iris, next to that is Bliss.  On the bottom left is Brigid, and next to that is Twixt N Tween.  All are 16 ct Aida except the Twixt N Tween which is 28ct Lugana.  I am torn with this shipment.  Iris and Brigid dyed pretty close to what her website shows.  But Bliss is pretty much a pink fabric with very little other coloring.  I thought it would be more on the blue side with a little pink.  The most disappointing however, is the Twixt N Tween.  I purchased this in 28ct Lugana, and 26 x 36  for an upcoming Joan Elliott Round Robin that I will be participating in.  My theme is Asian and I chose Twixt N Tween because on the website it is more orangy/brownish in color.  I even viewed a few of the Geisha’s that  I want  stitched,  in the fabric viewer and they look awesome with the orangy fabric.  Perfect for Asian.  And the Black lettering and outlining of my boxes would look awesome on it.  But I don’t know if you can tell from the photo above, the fabric is mainly pink and gray.  Totally not what I wanted for my Round Robin.  So I haven’t decided what I am going to do at this point.  It is a pretty fabric, but not what I was expecting.  So…I have some decisions to make.  In the mean time, I have to finish Emerald.  I am getting close to finishing the stitching.  Come back tomorrow for a progress photo.  Thanks for stopping by to see what I have been up to.

I Love Getting Mail!

Look what arrived in my mailbox yesterday:

Sailor's Delight fabric by StephanieThis luscious,  hand dyed fabric from Hand  Dyed Fabrics  by Stephanie. It’s called Sailor’s Delight and it is 16 ct Aida.  I LOVE the colors!  I joined her Fabric of the Month Club and this is January piece.  She is currently dying a piece of Sky & Grass that I will be using to stitch Roses of Provence on and can’t wait to get it next week.  Her fabrics are so beautiful and my wish list from her is getting longer and longer every time I see something stitched on one.  And I love it that she is located in Michigan as I am.  Click on the link and check out her lovely hand dyes.  From there you can check out her facebook page and see what people are stitching on her fabulous fabbies!

I also received this:

2010 Keepsake Calendar

I purchased this on ebay after trying to find it in stores and couldn’t.  It contains a pattern by Nora Corbett that I have seen many times over the last few months and when I first saw it, I fell in love with it.

Snow QueenSnow Queen.  Me being a snowman lover, I just had to have it.  She is just beautiful and the pattern will be added to my “stash of things to do”.  Of course I have to find the perfect fabric for her and it just might be a hand dyed by Stephanie! I already have something in mind…

Something New

Good morning.  A few weeks ago I picked up an issue of the Cross Stitch Collection magazine.  It had a beautiful fairy on the front and I just had to take a peek inside (that magazine obsession again).

It turns out it is a Joan Elliott pattern and I picked it up thinking I would give her a try.  I haven’t stitched any of her patterns before and thought this fairy was sweet.  So dear hubby took me to a small LNS where we found the perfect hand dyed 28ct Lavender Sunset fabric.  And I found a beautiful 28ct Summer Sky that would be perfect for any Angel or Fairy.  And the best part…hubby purchased the fabrics for me.  What a sweetie.

So now I have yet another project to add to my over-flowing collection.  And I now have 3 beautiful hand dyed fabrics that I can’t wait to stitch on some day.

Eye Candy

Good morning my blogging friends.  I don’t have a stitching project to share just yet.  I am hoping next week to show some real progress on my Angel.  Last weekend I visited my LNS to put Mediterranean Mermaid in to be framed and I picked up a few things.  Here is what I found to add to my stash:

I picked up Nora Corbett’s Maidenhair and bead pack.  I love the the way her dress falls into leaves at the bottom.  So pretty.  The fabric is a a hand dyed Jobelan that caught my eye.. er my hand.  It is a stiffer fabric and you know how I like  my fabric to be stiff to accommodate my tight stitching.  I have to admit, I am getting better at relaxing my stitches.  It is 28 ct Stormy Gray and I really like the feel of it.  The hand dye is subtle and I know I will find the perfect pattern to stitch on it some day.  The other thing I purchased is the recent and last issues of Stoney Creek magazine.  I am a magazine freak!  I am better than I was a few years ago and don’t buy every one, but I LOVE magazines and have to look at them all.  So while flipping through the recent issue I came across this:

In case you don’t know, I LOVE FROGS!!  Not the nasty ones that wreak havoc on your stitching, but all others.  And this is just too cute!  And I love the stand that it is displayed on and will have to order that.  Probably won’t get it done for this summer, but had to have it.  The last issue of the magazine featured Spring.  And the next 2 issues will have the Winter and Fall banners.

Enjoy your holiday weekend and remember all those that have served to give us the freedom we have today.
